In the heart of Rio de Janeiro a group of five distinctive rapping ladies together form the rap-group ‘Ladies Gang’. Coming from the North Zone of Rio, the poorer area of slums and projects, dislocated from the famous beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema, the girls represent what it’s like to live there. They rap about the prejudice they face, what it’s like being a black woman in Brazil, but also actively try to engage their own community in stepping out of their comfort zone. The girls intention is to be not just a rap group, but a social movement.
